I had the good fortune to have Robert as my boss for several years. He really was an amazing individual and I learned so much from him. He was intelligent, eloquent and I was always amazed by his level of energy. He was tough but you worked hard as you didn’t want to disappoint him. Over time, he became my mentor and dear friend. No matter how busy he was, he always found time to speak with me and give me his undivided attention. I will miss his voice and his laugh and all the moments I had with him. I can’t help but feel selfish about all those lessons he had yet to teach me and the laughs we would have shared. I read that true mentorship is a relationship, deep and lifelong, that chooses you. I must have really lucked out to have Robert as my mentor. He left me with a road map on how to live my life – one that I will try to aspire to. To Heidi, Liam and Thomas – he spoke of you often and adored all of you. I also have two boys and we would often compare notes. Several years ago, my husband and I went through a difficult time with our local school board trying to get my son the services he needed for his learning disabilities. I’ll never forget how incredibly supportive he was during this dark period and when we won our case, Robert was the first person I wanted to shared it with and I think he was just as thrilled as I was to receive the positive news. There was never a time thereafter where Robert didn’t ask how Grady was doing in our conversations. That’s just the type of person he was – to say he will be missed doesn’t seem to be enough. There is no substitute. My thoughts, prayers and hugs to Heidi, Thomas and Liam.
